This display features the following:

Silver Certificate Educational Note - 1896 $1.00
On the front side of the note appear the names of 23 famous Americans, which frame the allegorical figures of “History Instructing Youth.” Illustrated is the city of Washington as it appeared over 100 years ago, the Washington Monument, the Capitol Building and the first two pages of the Constitution as an open book. A factory with its smokestack appears, illustrating America’s pride in manufacturing. George and Martha Washington appear on the reverse.

Silver Certificate Educational Note - 1896 $2.00
This note depicted more scantily clad women and children, this time science presenting steam and electricity to industry and commerce. A mature “Science” presents youthful “Steam” and “Electricity” to commerce and manufacturing, also represented by mature ladies. This note was considered somewhat risqué in its time. Robert Fulton (American artist, engineer and inventor) and Samuel Morse (American painter and inventor) appear on the reverse.

Silver Certificate Educational Note - 1896 $5.00
Referred to as the United States' most beautiful piece of paper money, this note features an allegorical depiction of Electricity as the Dominant force in the world. The reverse sees the heads of two Civil War generals: Ulysses S. Grant and Phillip Sheridan, flanked on all sides by ornate engraving. The female figure representing Electricity as the dominant force in the world depicted a scantily clad women, revealing a bare breast. This partial nudity was said to cause a disturbance nationwide, with Anthony Comstock, Secretary of the Society for Suppression of Vice, pressuring the U.S. Treasury to withdraw these obscene notes. Three years later, entirely new designs were issued replacing the controversial Educational series. This once "banned in Boston" note has since become the most popular of all U.S. Large Size bank notes.

PLEASE NOTE: These currency displays do not contain real U.S. money.
The bills are photographs printed on one side, and are 3/4 of regular size bill.
