Roman Emperor L. Septimius Geta

AD 209 - 212

L. Septimius Geta, second son of Septimius Severus, was born in Milan on May 27th, 189. He accompanied his father on the Parthian campaign, and when Caracalla was declared Augustus in 189, Geta was given the title of Caesar. He took part in the British expedition of 208, and the following year was hailed as Augustus, it being Severus' clear intention that the brothers should inherit the throne jointly. The savage and jealous nature of Caracalla would, however, admit of no such arrangement, and Geta was murdered in February 212 A.D. Caracalla ordered that all statues of Geta should be destroyed. All inscriptions in his honour erased, and all coins bearing his effigy or titles melted down.
